Agua Dulce Foundation
The Agua Dulce (sweet water) Foundation is a dream becoming reality, little by little, day by day, as life itself. It is the vision to create a better future for Latin American children and through them, their families and communities.
Created by Marta in 2004, the Agua Dulce foundation has joined the efforts of some nonprofit organizations in Colombia and other countries of Latin America, donating money and offering benefit concerts.
In 2010 The Agua Dulce Foundation is proud to sponsor Nancy Mayen, a woman from the literacy program of “Safe Passage” in Guatemala.
In 2009 Marta composed and recorded the song “La esperanza canta” (enlace a itunes: hope sings) as part of an iniciative of The “Hope Sings” organization that harnesses the power of song to improve the lives of the poor – especially women – in Latin America. All net revenues from the sale of her song are donated to participating microfinance institutions: Kiva, FINCA, ACCION and MicroPlace.
For the past three years, Marta has been proudly helping “Safe Passage” working with the poorest at-risk children of families working in the Guatemala City garbage dump. Within a safe and caring environment, Safe Passage provides a comprehensive and integrated program that fosters hope, good health, educational achievement, self-sufficiency, self esteem and confidence. Their primary focus is on creating opportunities and dignity through the power of education. Marta and her group toured the US offering a series of concerts to collect funds for the organization and on October 2009 they visited the garbage dump and had the priviledge of sharing their time with the community of the garbage dump.
In 2007, Agua Dulce joined “Creemos en ti” (We believe in you) that provides psychological support to abused children and their families. Every year, 10 thousand boys and girls in Colombia are victims of sexual abuse and almost one thousand die. These numbers revel that infant abuse is one of the biggest problems in the country and it has to be solve by all social sectors. Agua Dulce was proud to be part of the help needed to solve it and dreams on a future without emotional and physical abused children.
In 2005 and 2006, Agua Dulce sponsored four children through “NUTRIR” Juan Diego, Claudia Patricia, Yeltsin and Angie giving them the opportunity to attend a center where they received breakfast and lunch and where they also attended arts and sports workshops that help them grow healthy and happy.
